About

The Gardener’s Cottage was added 8 years ago to historic Spruce Lane Farm. Originally built as a “granny flat” it has recently been re-decorated and refurnished to provide a “home away from home” for out of town visitors to the scenic Elora area.

History

Spruce Lane Farm was built in the 1850s. The earliest owner of the property was Peter Carroll of which the nearby Carroll Creek was named. This creek is a tributary of the Grand River.

The structure of the house is called a ‘Grout House’ (the material being stone and cement). The Spruce trees on the lane were planted by the son of the previous owner approximately 80 years ago.

The original bank barn still stands on the property and has been well preserved. It is one of the few such barns left in Ontario. Some of the old beams and barn boards have been removed by a family friend who uses them in luxury barn/housing projects in the state of New York.

Guests will enjoy the fully equipped kitchen and bathroom, queen size bed and sofa in living area which pulls out to a comfy double bed. Bathroom fitted with large shower and guests will be provided with fresh towels daily, hairdryer and amenities.

While You Are Here

Enjoy the lovely country gardens over breakfast or a glass of wine in the evening on private patio or feel free to wander around the grounds. You also have the convenience of a heated in-ground swimming pool.

A large continental breakfast will be provided in the apartment, home baking and home made or locally made jams and honey available. We support the “buy local” motto and as much produce as possible will be supplied by local farms and businesses.

Gardener’s Cottage is strictly Pet Free. No exceptions
